The General Overseer of All Nations Evangelism Ministries, Archbishop Dr Yimam Orkwar has urged well-meaning Nigerians to reject the bill before the national assembly that seeks claim of indigeneship by people who have settled in any part of the country about five years, describing the move as a surreptitious plan aimed at stealthy occupation and takeover of Benue land by enemies of the state.
The Archbishop also asked Christians to take actions inorder to complement the faith they profess.
Dr Orkwar gave the remarks during his sermon on Sunday, 10th July, 2022 at Faith Cathedral, Makurdi.
He said that all well-meaning Nigerians especially Christian legislators owe it a duty to kill the bill that has evil in intent and purpose which will pave the way for foreigners to come and settle and claim ownership of Benue land.
The cleric disclosed that all the villages that have been destroyed in Benue State by Fulani herdsmen have been occupied forcefully by same persons, and if the bill is allowed to be passed into law, it would then mean that the forceful occupiers will claim indigeneship of the villages in question.
He stressed that this gross strategy is to be employed across Nigeria with the hope that whenever the herders pursue the original owners of the land, and have tarried for about five years, then they will start assuming ownership.
Archbishop Orkwar admonished the church to continue to create awareness so that the evil intended development will be blocked.
Preaching on the theme, "There Is Still Hope", the cleric said that the time has come for Christians to back up their faith with actions, without which faith is dead, stressing that Christians do not just have hope because they are living, but because they are joined to the living Christ.
Reading from the scripture according to Ecclesiastes 9:4, 1 Corinthians 6:17, John 17:21 and Galatians 2:20, the Archbishop said that every profession of faith must be complemented by step of action.
According to him, sometimes Christians don't know how to enter when the door is opened for them after they knocked; they don't know how to find when they seek, or receive when they give, maintaining that in all the above cases, there are action options left for Christians to take if their conditions must change.
He remarked that the times are not for Christians to be idling away and grumbling but to take decisive actions as God is looking for people who would stand in the gap for the world.
He challenged Christians to raise up and stand in the gap for Benue State, Nigeria and the whole world so that the fruits of labour of the sons of God will not be enjoyed by usurpers and land grabbers, citing Ezekiel 22:30.
The power packed service was characterized by catchy moments that stretched from 8:00am to 11am.
